FCA Americas Signs On to Global Campaign for Education’s Recommendations for U.S. Leadership in Global Education
25 November 2020
In recognition that ensuring quality education will be crucial to rebuild and recover from the pandemic, FCA Americas is a proud signatory of the Global Campaign for Education’s (GCE) Recommendations for U.S. Leadership in Global Education.
In their recommendations, the GCE urges the incoming administration to restore U.S. leadership in global education through strengthening bilateral efforts in international basic education and supporting multilateral organizations with the experience and technical capacity to respond to the COVID-19 emergency.
A full list of recommendations can be found here.
FCA believes that education is both a right and a means of realizing other human rights. With schools closed across the globe, children and young people are not only at risk of losing their education, but also stand vulnerable to malnourishment, violence, and toxic stress caused by economic instability.
Girls are particularly at risk, as pandemic-related closures make them more vulnerable to child marriages and/or early pregnancy. Experts estimate that 20 million additional girls could be out of school following the crisis.
Education in emergencies is the key focus of FCA’s humanitarian work. Additionally, inclusive and Equitable Quality Education for children and youth in vulnerable situations has a high priority in our programming.
FCA is responding to the COVID-19 pandemic by working to help children and young people in the most vulnerable situation stay safe and keep learning through providing emergency aid, hygiene supplies and distance learning as well as awareness of the disease.
